WHEN TO GO
Day 1
Lake Manyara National Park
Next morning after your Kilimanjaro climb drive to Lake Manyara National Park and seek out elephants, hippos, buffalo and giraffes. Set out to discover East Africa’s legendary wildlife amid the stunning Rift Valley landscape.
Ernest Hemingway once described Lake Manyara as the “loveliest [lake]…in Africa. The lake stretches for 31 miles along the base of the 2,000 feet high Rift Valley escarpment. Circling Lake Manyara is a short four-hour adventure. This makes Lake Manyara National Park an ideal destination for a quick, yet rewarding, safari for travelers pressed on time.
Overnight: Sopa Lodge or similar
Day 2
Ngorongoro Crater
Descend 2,000 feet to the Ngorongoro Crater, where volcanic slopes shelter over 30,000 animals. Observe the interactions of predators and prey; spot colorful bird-life and track elephants, rare black rhinos, cheetahs, big cats, and more.
This unique destination has been labeled as “Africa’s Eden.” Ngorongoro Crater is the largest intact volcanic caldera in the world. The Crater was formed when a giant volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago.
The Crater represents one of the most unique and fascinating self-contained ecosystems on the planet, let alone Africa or Tanzania. It is a “must-see” safari experience.
Overnight: Sopa Lodge or similar
Day 3-4
Serengeti National Park
Spend two idyllic days exploring the vast Serengeti plains. In the mornings and afternoons explore the savannah from a vehicle. Search for lions or cheetah along the edge of the woodlands or head out into the vast plains in search of the game. Stop for a sundowner as the sun sinks below the horizon and when back in the camp, enjoy a delicious meal and listen to the sounds unfolding around you.
As Tanzania’s most famous national park, many often ask: “Is the Serengeti truly that great?” The answer is a resounding yes. Serengeti National Park is simply nature on display…in all of her beauty, power, awe, and curiosity. Make the journey and you will never forget the experience, the sensation and the music of the wild.
Overnight: Safari Tented Lodge
Day 5
